The Dragon Prince - A Review
Greetings there! Sorry for not posting for a while! Today we are going to talk about a very well known animated series, The Dragon Prince. This was my second time watching it because I wanted to see season 4 and I couldn't remember much about the previous seasons.
So, The Dragon Prince is an animated TV show about three protagonists (two princes and an elf that was initially sent to kill them) and their adventure to ending the conflict between Xadia, the magical land of elves and fantastic creatures, and the Kingdoms of Humans. (At least this is the premise for the first three seasons because in the first part I want to review those.)
I think I enjoyed this show more when I was younger because at that time I was more into fantasy stuff, but now that my taste has changed a bit, as I got older, I have a slightly different opinion about it.
Starting with the story, I think it has a very solid plot and a beautifully done worldbuilding, although I got a bit annoyed by the multiple storylines that every episode has. For example, every episode had like 3 stories happening all at the same time. In my opinion, most of the parts about general Amaya and Janai could of have been cut out and the story would of have remained the same. However, I think it has very good tension and the story is interesting enough to keep you invested like 99,9% of the time. Of course, I had some moments when I got bored, but it didn't make me quit the show.
Now, the characters (here will be some minor spoilers), I'm pretty fine with all of them. They aren't the most interesting ones, but they work. The only thing I tough was out of place was Callum and Rayla's relationship. The first time I watched this I didn't notice the lack of romantic chemistry between these two, but now I do. I truly believe they are meant to be just friends and I found it weird to see them as a couple.
And, as for the animation, it looks okay. I'm not a particularly big fan of this kind of animation, but I think it suits the show's vibe.(Plus the soundtrack is prefect for it!)
Okay, okay, now, what I think about season 4? I firmly stand by the idea that the end of season 3 was the best ending for the show and I think that season 4 should of have never been produced. The idea itself isn't bad, but I think it should be a spinoff show, rather than part of the main show. This season feels so different from the other ones!! Also, what the hell happened to the designs of the characters and the animation? Almost everyone looked so stiff and sometimes you got the impression that you were watching some NPC moving around. I think that by the end it got better, but still, I almost quit after like two episodes in season 4 for the fact that everything felt off in a way. And the end… what was that??? It isn't that bad of a season, but I'm getting worried that the next ones will be worse than this one.
Anyways, a good show that brings back lots of memories, but I'm going to pretend that season 4 doesn't exist or it's a whole other series.
